QUESTIONS
common questions
01 getting started
-
The best place to start depends on how much information you already have and how comprehensive of an evaluation you’re looking for. If you already have recent laboratory testing, Bring Your Own Labs is the best place to start. If your symptoms seem to point primarily to one area, Single Functional Test provides a more targeted evaluation. If you’re experiencing symptoms across multiple areas or want a broader understanding of what’s contributing to how you feel, Comprehensive Testing or the Signature Program are typically the best fit. If you’re unsure, the symptom quiz or a consultation call can help point you in the right direction.
-

-
No. We don’t diagnose medical conditions or prescribe medications. Our role is to interpret laboratory findings, develop personalized nutrition, supplement, and lifestyle recommendations, and work alongside your existing medical care when appropriate.
02 testing & supplements
-
Functional testing is central to how we practice. Most people begin with testing because it provides information that symptoms alone cannot. The exception is Bring Your Own Labs, which is designed for people who already have recent laboratory testing and want help interpreting their results.
-
Yes. Bring Your Own Labs is designed specifically for people who already have recent laboratory testing and want help understanding what it means. Existing laboratory results can also provide useful context for other services.
-
We use a variety of functional tests depending on the questions we’re trying to answer. Common examples include GI-MAP, DUTCH, Organic Acids Testing, functional blood panels, micronutrient testing, SIBO breath testing, mold and mycotoxin testing, and other specialty panels.
-
Conventional laboratory testing is designed primarily to diagnose disease. Functional testing provides additional information about how systems within the body are functioning. We use both conventional and functional testing to develop a more complete understanding of what’s contributing to a person’s symptoms.
-
It depends on the test. Before any testing begins, we provide instructions outlining any supplements, medications, foods, or lifestyle factors that may affect your results.
-
The timeline depends on the test. Some tests can be completed in a single day, while others require collection over several days. Most results are available within 2-4 weeks after submission.
-
No. Functional tests are not covered by insurance. However, many people are able to use HSA or FSA funds to pay for testing. We review all costs before ordering any tests.
-
No. Service fees cover our time, expertise, and any testing included in your service. Supplements are purchased separately.
-
Most clients spend $75-$250 per month, depending on their recommendations. We prefer focused recommendations over large supplement protocols.
-
We use Fullscript, which provides access to third-party tested supplements at practitioner pricing. This also allows us to pass discounts directly to our clients.
-
Yes. That’s why we review your medications, supplements, and medical history before making recommendations.
03 logistics & expectations
-
Yes. We’re based in Austin and work with clients throughout the United States. Most appointments are conducted virtually.
-
Many functional tests can be completed at home. Blood work is typically completed through a laboratory collection center such as Labcorp.
-
Outcomes depend in part on consistency and adherence to the protocol. When progress stalls, we reassess symptoms, laboratory findings, implementation, and whether additional testing or protocol adjustments are needed.
-
Symptoms can fluctuate as your body adjusts to changes in nutrition, supplements, and lifestyle. If something doesn’t feel right, we’ll review your symptoms and adjust the protocol as needed.
